About This Place

Nestled along Oakland’s scenic waterfront at 1000 Embarcadero, Brotzeit Lokal offers an authentic slice of Bavaria right in the heart of California. This German restaurant and beer garden excels in bringing traditional German flavors to life with a modern, inviting atmosphere that’s perfect for brunch, lunch, or a relaxed evening by the bay.

Step inside, and you’re greeted with a warm, convivial vibe—a place where the hearty aromas of freshly baked pretzels and sizzling sausages mingle with the crisp sea breeze from the nearby water. Brotzeit Lokal’s menu is a vibrant celebration of German culinary heritage, showcasing signature dishes that are as comforting as they are flavorful. Whether you're craving the rich, perfectly crispy Wiener Schnitzel paired with golden fries and a tangy applesauce, or the indulgent Schnitzel Stack layered just right, every bite here tells a story of craftsmanship and care.

The Brotzeit Sausage Platter is a star selection, boasting an enticing variety of sausages that perfectly balance smoky, savory, and subtly spiced notes—ideal for sharing or savoring solo. Complement these with traditional sides like their renowned Jägerspätzle, a luscious, egg noodle dish crowned with melted cheese and mushrooms, or the vibrant Arugula Salad that adds freshness to hearty plates.

Diners with a sweet tooth will find their dreams come true with desserts like the Salted Bavarian Bretzel Bread Pudding—a warm, luscious treat crafted from Bavarian pretzels infused with grand Marnier, golden raisins, and served with fresh berries and a delicate caramel drizzle. The Nutella Chocolate Cheesecake and flaky Apple Strudel also provide perfect endings, mixing classic flavors with a touch of indulgence.

What truly sets Brotzeit Lokal apart is their remarkable drink selection, which perfectly complements the food. From the crisp, refreshing König Ludwig Weissbier Wheat Beer imported from Bavaria, to unique offerings like the Finnish Long Drink—a historic beverage with roots in the 1952 Helsinki Olympics—this place is a haven for beer enthusiasts. And for those who prefer cocktails, their Bloody Mary, Mimosas, and Salty Dog cocktails deliver with balanced flavors and skillful presentation.

Whether you’re dining on the leafy outdoor patio overlooking the bay or soaking in the friendly, attentive service indoors, the atmosphere here is unmatched. Customers frequently praise Brotzeit Lokal’s exceptional service, with some noting the warmth and attention to detail even rivals that of establishments in Munich itself. The stunning waterfront views at sunset add an unforgettable magic that elevates every meal.

For those who want to take the experience home, Brotzeit Lokal offers branded merchandise including embroidered patches, tulip glassware, and cozy zip-up hoodies—perfect souvenirs or gifts that carry a piece of Bavarian charm.

In short, Brotzeit Lokal at Oakland’s Embarcadero is more than just a restaurant—it’s an immersive journey into German culinary tradition paired with lively service and a captivating setting. Whether you're a local or a visitor, a food lover or a beer connoisseur, this spot is a delightful escape that invites you back time and again.

Decent quality German food in a cool location right by the water. We tried the Wiener Schnitzel and a snack plate. The schnitzel was good. It came with fries and a little container of applesauce. The snack plate was a pretty good option if you want to try a bunch of different things. Pickled egg and veggies with a piece of salami type cured sausage,a pate style meat, a cheese spread and their addictive spicy nuts. Oh, and a baked pretzel! Service was pleasant and fast.

Gonna be honest you don’t really come here for the food you come here for the incredible service and the great location and vibe. The restaurant is on the water which at sunset can you ask for more?! Additionally the service kicked butt and was super great. Now here’s my only problem the food. The sausages were really great but the pretzel, the spaetzle, and the sauerkraut really were that good. They tasted store bought and even the best store bought versions of those items. If this place could up its food game it would be a solid 5/5. The food wasn’t horrible again the mains were great, but I really think they could step it up.

There are two major differences between originaly German place and this one: 1. Service. You'd be lucky to get such an attention and warmth in any Munich places. 2. Food is the next level. Way better. I accidentally stopped by for a lunch and couldn't wait to come back for a dinner. The beer selection is unique and actually tastes like a old good European beer. Looking forward to come back as soon as it get wla bit warmer.

Very nice ambience and service. We sat outside at the picnic tables, bit chilly and windy and perfect weather. Food was great! Looking forward to another trip in the evening and watching the sunset with a few beers!

Pilsner and blonde beer was really good. Brat plate and pretzel is legit. Good price point and quality. A short walk, like next door, to the hotel!

Dinner & drinks outside on the water is highly recommended. They have a great beer selection and full bar. Happy hour until 6pm.
